Student Support Services Department

 

The faculty and staff of ACS desires to provide continuity in a student's education by providing modified instruction due to illness or injury. Homebound instruction offers temporary educational services to students who are unable to attend school for longer than ten (10) consecutive days due to illness or injury.

INITIAL CERTIFICATION PROCESS

In order to determine a student's eligibility for homebound services, the parent/guardian must complete and submit the following forms to Dr. Keri Prigmore at the Educator Support Center:

1. Release of Records
2. Initial Certification 

 

Parents may home school their own children pursuant to Tennessee Code Annotated § 49-6-3050 by registering with their local education agency (LEA). Parents choosing this educational option must chose one of the following three options for home school education:

1. Independent Home School
   • Parents choosing this educational option are requires to complete an Intent to Home School form and provide evidence of a high school diploma or GED.  Parents are also required to submit attendance documentation that reflects 4 hours of instruction per day, for 180 days, at the end of each school year.  State testing of home school students is required in grades 5, 7, and 9 and should be coordinated with the school.
2. Church-related Umbrella School
   • By authority of the same statute, parents may also home school their own children by affiliating and registering with a church related school defined by Tennessee Code Annotated § 49-50-801.  If a parent is exercising this educational option, they must also register with the LEA they would otherwise be attending.  Church-related schools will determine what recording-keeping requirements are in place for these parents.  However, church-related schools must keep daily attendance reports which pursuant to Tennessee Code Annotated § 49-6-3007(d) shall be open to inspection at all reasonable times, to the director of schools of the system in which the school is located or to the director of school’s authorized representative.
3. Accredited Online School
   • Parents choosing this option must ensure that the school has accreditation status and provide evidence of student enrollment at the beginning of each school year.  The following are acceptable regional accrediting agencies:
     • AdvancED
     • SACS CASI-Southern Association of Colleges and School Council an Accreditation and School Improvement
     • NCA CASI - North Central Association Commission on Accreditation and School Improvement
     • NWAC - Northwest Accreditation Commission
     • Middle States Associaton of Colleges and School (MSA)
     • MSCES - Middle States Commission on Elementary Schools
     • MSCSS - Middle States Commission on Secondary Schools
     • New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC)
     • Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC)
     • National Association of Independent Schools( NAIS) and affiliates (e.g., SAIS)
     • National Council of Private School Accreditation (NCPSA)
